Top 9 Harmless Looking Animals that are Actually Deadly to Humans

With their soft fur, pretty colors, and big eyes, many creatures can look cute and cuddly to humans. Unfortunately, some animals are more vicious than they look. Whether in acts of self-defense or seemingly unpredictable rage, some animals can fight back with strong bites, sharp claws, and sneaky attacks. 

In short,  you should avoid touching or petting any creature in the wild that you are not familiar with. Above all, you do not know how your presence will affect their behavior towards you.

To give you a slight advantage when roaming in unfamiliar places, here’s a list of 9 cute animals that can actually hurt you if you’re not careful when you see them around. 

1. Pufferfish

Although they may look cute when they “puff”, these marine species are actually quite dangerous. If you mistakenly eat one of their kind, these inflatable animals are extremely toxic. In fact, they are 1,200 times more poisonous than cyanide.

So if you see catch a pufferfish during some of your fishing journeys, never even think of cooking them. They might cost you your last fishing experience.

2. Geese

If you even think that these “bird-relatives” are cute and cuddly, just look at the picture below. Does it look friendly to you? Well, the answer is actually no.

Geese can be very protective and aggressive animals. This is mostly true when they are waiting for their eggs to hatch. So, don’t even think of trying to pat and pet them because some breeds are even used as guard animals. So you can imagine how fierce they can be.

3. Slow Loris

A highly threatened slow loris may pose an extreme danger to those who approach it in the wild. The primate, have evolved through time and eventually learned to mimic venomous snakes. In fact, slow lorises are the only known venomous primate.

Their big eyes and soft fur make them look so cuddly and attractive to humans. But, slow lorises secrete venom from their inner arms, which then enters their mouths during grooming.

Although they only use these venom for defense mechanisms, it can cause rashes, illness, anaphylactic shock, or even death.

4. Squirrels and Chipmunks

Squirrels and chipmunks are not actually aggressive. In fact, they widely inhabit city parks. If their cuteness tempted you to feed them, hold right there because that is not a wise thing to do.

Once disturbed, these cute creatures can bite you. And the worst thing is that they are known to spread numerous diseases such as salmonella, encephalitis, and rabies.

5. Polar Bear

“Polar bears are the only animal that will definitely stalk a human and eat them,” says Ed Zebedee, director of the Government of Nunavut’s protective services branch.

Fortunately, a whole lot of ice and millions of miles of seawater keeps us away from these furry creatures. Despite this distance, their race actually managed to attack approximately 73 humans in the last 130 years.

6. Blue-ringed Octopus

These beautifully colored creatures can be found in tide pools and coral reefs in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, from Japan to Australia. Their bites are tiny and often painless, with many victims not realizing they have been envenomated until respiratory depression and paralysis start to set in.

Unfortunately, no antivenom has been discovered yet. But first aid treatment includes pressure on the wound and artificial respiration until the paralysis subsides and the victim regains the ability to breathe on their own.

7. Leopard Seal

People think of seals as cute “ocean puppies”. However, the leopard seal actually gives you more than what you think in the naked eye. These animals are actually the third largest seal in the world. They can grow up to 10 feet long.

Apart from their size, leopard seal can be notoriously aggressive, and any scientist or photographer who gets too close to one risks paying the ultimate price.

8. Poison Dart Frogs

The poisonous dart frog is actually a very small reptile. In fact, it can be less than an inch long. But these miniature creatures’ bright and colorful skins actually warns its predators of its high-level toxicity.

So if you’re thinking of kissing one to find a prince, we suggest you stop thinking about it. Their cuteness and brightness can actually kill you instantly. In fact, their poison can kill 10 grown men.

9. Kangaroos

Kangaroos look very adorable carrying joeys in their pouches. Unfortunately, their powerful hind legs deliver violent kicks which can seriously hurt you if you’re not careful around them.

In fact, these cute mammals will never hesitate to kick their own kin if they get into a fight, how much more a mere human like you if you accidentally or purposely scare them.
